| from Nate, about the people of Quebec... |
|

I continue to be moved by the statistics I have read about the Quebecois people of Canada. They have the lowest rate of church attendance in North America. They have the highest percentages for divorce, abortion, couples living together outside marriage, and out-of-wedlock births in Canada. They have Canada's highest suicide rate reportedly one of the highest suicide rates in the entire industrialized world!
Outreach Canada, a church-planting and church-growth ministry, has labeled the Quebecois "the most unreached people group in North America."
As with other Francophone cultures, the Quebecois love comics (or bandes dessinées, as they call them). COMIX35 wants to inspire one or more French-language comics with a powerful "return to the Lord" message for the hurting, empty hearts of the Quebecois.
Please pray for these precious people and for COMIX35's plans to reach them. Thank you.

| COMIX35's New "Timothy/Joshua"... |
|
15 Dec 09
|
José Carlos Gutiérrez of Mexico City has been chosen as our "Timothy/Joshua" -- the future leader of the COMIX35 ministry, Lord willing. He and his wife Soraya met with the entire Board of COMIX35 at our Annual Meeting in November.
Please pray for José Carlos. His official position is "Ministry Communications and Support," but in the months and years ahead he will be tackling a whole variety of assignments and projects for COMIX35 in Latin America and around the world.
Please pray, too, for José Carlos's family, especially his mother-in-law who will be having surgery on Dec 22nd. Thank you.
(José Carlos will begin posting prayer requests here directly soon.)

The current chemotherapy continues to be easier on my wife Susan than it was the first time around. She will have another CAT scan today to determine the effectiveness of these new treatments. Please continue to pray for her complete healing.
Lord willing, my health issues of the past year should be corrected through abdominal surgery this coming Wednesday. Please pray that my operation would go well and my recovery time would be as short as possible. I have been asked to return to Japan as soon as I can to continue assisting with the Christian manga projects there.
Thank you.

| Our "Timothys & Joshuas" Project... |
|
29 Jun 09
|
We have several great Potential Candidates for our Timothys and Joshuas / Marthas and Priscillas Project! Praise the Lord! The candidates and the Board of COMIX35 are praying for the Lord's guidance during this time as we consider the challenges and opportunities ahead, including the candidates' possible attendance at COMIX35's Annual Board Meeting in November.
Please join us in praying for these candidates and their families, and for the COMIX35 Board during this time. Thank you.

| Pray for our Inmate Tract Project... |
|
13 Jun 09
|
Initially launched on a larger scale in late 2008, this project had to be revised due to the changes in our family health situations. We are now producing a 7-page mini-comic based on the life of an ex-offender who currently works in prisons. Information on the back (page 8) will explain how a Christian inmate will have the opportunity to create a mini-comic of their own personal testimony.
We are already corresponding with some inmates and chaplains about possible productions. Please pray that the Lord would continue to connect us with all the right people partnering ministries, chaplains, inmates so that effective literature will be produced and distributed to inmates and "at risk" youth who are in danger of ending up in prisons. Thank you.

| Prayer for our 'transforming robots' tract project... |
|
5 Jun 09
|
Our new "Betrayed!" tract (see additional information below) has been published in time for the “transforming robots” movie sequel coming out this month. Lord willing, hundreds of copies will be distributed at the huge San Diego Comic-Con event in July.
Please pray that these tracts would be placed in the right hands and that many pre-teen and young teen boys would be lead into Life as a result. Thank you.

| Prayers for our health... |

My wife Susan's chemo treatments appear to be going well so far. We're blessed to live just minutes from UNM Hospital which has one of the best cancer clinics in the Southwest USA. Please continue to pray for Susan's complete healing.
Recently I switched over to getting care at UNM Hospital, too, and finally my health mystery seems to have been answered, at least partially: I have an enlarged liver. I'm trying to get in to see a specialist and find out why exactly and what to do about it. I suspect I may have picked up something unpleasant during my foreign travels for the ministry.
Thank you for your prayers for us.

| More prayer for my wife... |
|
11 Apr 09
|
We met with Susan's oncologist Friday to learn the results of her latest CAT scan. There is new cancer growth. She will begin chemo treatments again next week.
As we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Messiah Yeshua, this weekend, please continue to lift up prayers for her complete healing.
Thank you.

| Additional Tract Projects... |
|
17 Mar 09
|
Our partner LMI in Texas is ready to print our new "Betrayed!" tract (see information below). We should have a number of copies in circulation by the time the “transforming robots” movie sequel comes out this summer.
Now it looks as if COMIX35 has a great opportunity to produce several more new tracts for key comics-loving cultures in various places around the world. However there are more proposed projects on the table than we have time and funds to pursue currently.
Please pray that I would discern spiritually which tracts projects are just our "good ideas" and which ones are actually the "God ideas." As always, I need the Lord's clear guidance. Thank you.
|
As I've written before, both my wife Susan and I have health challenges. This makes it difficult for me to travel currently, particularly on overseas trips. Thankfully most of our current P.I.C.S. Projects allow me to work from the office via the Internet. However I do need to get out and speak to groups and churches about COMIX35, to raise awareness and support for the ministry, and most of those trips will need to be relatively close to our base here in Albuquerque until my health improves. Please pray that the Lord would open doors for me to have speaking engagements in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and West Texas. Thank you.

| Africa Comic Project Prayer Update... |
|
06 Feb 09
|
Wow -- We have some powerful prayer warriors on our side! We had experienced delivery delays of up to 8 weeks on the first shipment of African comic magazines to our contributors. After we asked for your prayers here on this blog, two of the boxes in the second shipment arrived within 5 days!
However some of the recipients are being asked to pay more than they can afford to claim their comics. We are working to help them, but we would appreciate your prayers that all the boxes would be released to them and not sent back to us. Thank you.

| Healing for my wife and myself... |
|
26 Jan 09
|
As many of our faithful Prayer Partners know, my wife Susan was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007. She is a strong woman and has come through several big surgeries plus months of chemotherapy with her positive attitude and faith firmly intact. Please pray for her complete healing from this disease. I've had health issues, too, and I would appreciate your prayers for my healing as I continue the work the Lord has given me to do through COMIX35. Thank you.

| Pray for our 'transforming robots' tract project... |
|
26 Jan 09
|
We are partnering with Literature Ministries International (LMI) to produce a full-color, evangelistic comic tract to reach pre-teen and early teenage boys, an age when they are the most open to the Gospel. It uses the popular “transforming robots” concept to illustrate Christ's sacrificial death for us. Production of the tract is almost complete, but there are still some difficulties to overcome. Please pray for the artist as he finishes the last of the work and for LMI as they prepare to print these tracts. Thank you.

| New COMIX35 seminar plans... |
|
23 Jan 09
|
Currently we are having discussions with potential hosts for two new comics seminars. One of these seminars would be held in The 10/40 Window later this year, and the other in the USA in 2010. Please pray for the God-directed development of these possible events and for the hosting organizations involved. Thank you.

| Prayer for our Prison Competition... |
|
19 Jan 09
|
This week I'm going to be speaking to representatives from a number of different prison ministries, telling them about the COMIX35 ministry in general and our new Prison Competition in particular. Please pray that the Lord would grant me favor with these brothers and sisters and that we would find additional partners to help us with this important project. Thank you.

| Please pray for our Africa Comic Project... |
|
12 Jan 09
|
We have been facing some significant shipping challenges and delays in getting the first issues of the African comic magazine delivered to the contributors.
Please pray that all the boxes would reach the intended recipients just as quickly as possible, so that distribution can be carried out on a wider scale, and we would be able to start gathering the important reader reactions and feedback we need on this project. Thank you.

| Welcome to our new Prayer Weblog... |
|
7 Jan 09
|
Greetings in His Most Holy Name!
I'm Nate Butler, President of COMIX35, and I'll be posting the majority of the prayer requests you'll be finding here in the coming days, Lord willing, until His return.
Although we're a very small ministry, we have a lot of BIG needs, and we truly value the support of our COMIX35 Prayer Warriors who intercede for us and provide prayer cover for us, especially when we're working in dark and difficult parts of the world. More on that in future postings.
I'll try not to talk very much about money here. Everyone knows that non-profit Christian ministries need funding, especially in today's difficult economy. Please be praying about that regularly, as the Lord brings us to mind.
If you haven't done so already, please click the link at the top of the page and subscribe to this weblog so that you can be informed automatically of new prayer requests as we post them.
Thank you for reading ... and thank you so much for praying!
