Seminar Details

COMIX35 offers classess for all Christian communicators who want to learn the specifics of producing and using comics-style literature for evangelism and discipleship. Past seminars have been attended by missionaries, publishers, editors, writers, artists, evangelists, students, journalists, video producers, marketing directors, and many others - both men and women, young and old, professional and amateur.

Our standard COMIX35 seminar is 3 full days. (In some circumstances, one day introductory seminars can also be arranged.)

The 3-day seminars are very "hands-on" for the students, with opportunities to create comic strips and tracts during class which can go into print immediately after the training has ended.

Sessions cover Identifying Your Audience, Plotting & Scripting, Storyboarding & Visual Storytelling, Editing/Art Directing, and Cultural, Communication, and Evangelism Strategy Considerations. (It is not an introductory "how to draw" class, although some art instruction may be provided, as needed.)

A number of printed handouts are made available to the attendees on a variety of subjects including Art Supplies, Comics Terminology, Story Structure, Lettering, and Figure Drawing.

If the training is residential, evenings can be used for additional personalized consultations and one-on-one tutorials, as well as prayer and fellowship. The faculty will be there, first and foremost, for the education & edification of the participants.

In addition, COMIX35 continues to consult and provide follow-up on Christian comics projects inspired by our training, upon request.

Comics such as Jungle Village, PowerMark, Dorie the Girl Nobody Loved, Pulp Crucificition, JCCC Comic, and numerous tracts have been developed, inspired, and/or refined through the COMIX35 training course.

COMIX35 Faculty

Our primary instructor is Mr. Nate Butler, who made his living for 20+ years as a cartoonist, graphic artist, and writer/illustrator of comics. He worked on over a dozen internationally known characters, including Archie, Muppets, Popeye, Barbie, and many more. He also packaged or published Christian comics including Aida-Zee, Behold 3-D, The Dave Roever Story and The Truth for Youth.

Mr. Butler has taught at more than 30 Christian comics trainings for over 750 attendees representing 49 countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Other Christian comics professionals and "teacher trainees" from England, Russia, Venezuela, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, India, Canada, Australia, and the USA have participated in past trainings. We welcome (enthusiastically!) the participation of qualified Christian comics producers living in countries where we teach.
